We’re throwing this one together with the SF Carbon Collaborative, Brighter Planet and the North American Carbon World Conference put on by IETA, Pointcarbon and the Climate Action Reserve.

There will be a short program in a side room– a panel discussion about Employee Engagement around Corporate Sustainability put on by the SF Carbon Collaborative, that begins at 6. They’ve asked folks to register for this program as space is limited in the room. (below)

Hope to see you there!

* Dan Whaley, Climos
* David Pascal, SF Carbon Collaborative
* Lisa Spafford, IETA
* Warner Philips, Tendris
* Anup Jacob, Virgin Green Fund
* Neal Dikeman, CarbonFlow

———————–

Personal request: Anyone that has two desks available starting mid April, please contact me privately. Our wonderful brick and beam office that we’ve shared with Tendris for several years will soon be changing hands. Looking for a good environment with good people in this space. Thanks– Dan

Panel Presentation on Employee Engagement in Corporate Sustainability Initiatives

APRIL 14, 2010 @ 6:00PM – 111 MINNA GALLERY

Please join the San Francisco Carbon Collaborative, Brighter Planet, Climatini and the NACW Conference for an evening of drinks and networking, preceded by a panel discussion and an exploration of how to better foster Employee Engagement in corporate sustainability initiatives.

Employee Engagement is becoming an increasingly popular means to drive corporate sustainability efforts. Around the world, companies and communities are mobilizing their workforces to lessen pollution, waste and operational inefficiencies. However, a new analysis by Brighter Planet suggests that employees are generally dissatisfied with their employers’ sustainability initiatives. Moreover, many employers are unable to quantify the effects of their internal efforts. This finding is especially timely in light of increasing executive pressure to measure the impact of sustainability work on bottom line.

We’ll preview the new Brighter Planet study and consider the follow:

· How can companies enhance CSR strategies by fusing employee initiative and forward green thinking?

· How does the strategy of sustainable employee engagement fit within the larger theme of CSR?

· How can we measure CSR/EE impacts upon triple bottom lines?

· What are the pros and cons of implementing top-down vs. bottom-up sustainability programs?

· How should companies incentivize employee-led initiatives?

· Where are the cutting-edge opportunities and best-practice ideas?

This event is free of charge with a cash bar. Space is limited for the panel discussion, so please register in advance. http://www.carboncollaborative.org/index.php?q=civicrm/event/register&id=27&reset=1

Yes folks… we wore these ridiculous moustaches all month. Now, come buy us a drink, take a photo, and help us bid adieu to these damn things while we all raise our glasses to the Copenhagen negotiators preparing for the beginning of next week’s UNFCCC COP 15.

We’re doing this one at the new Plant Cafe, the solar powered, sustainable vegan restaurant with organic cocktails at Pier 3 (NOT the Marina location… there’s two of them). They’ve promised to move some tables around for us and treat us extra-special nice since we’re climate people and they’re down with that.

When? Thu, December 3rd, 6pm <<<—– Note time change, a bit earlier
Where? The Plant Cafe, Pier 3, The Embarcadero

When?  Thu, December 3rd, 7pm
Where? Still in progress… we’ll let you know.
We’ll be throwing this one in conjunction w/ the Cleantechies (www.cleantechies.com)… who will be getting ‘stached too. Cleanmoustachies?

It’s really quite simple.

1. Gents:  (ladies below)

It’s Movember, and the Cleantech Moustache Challenge is on. For the next 30 days we challenge you to a Stache-Off, a Mo-Down, a My-stache-Is-Bigger-Than-Yours, if you will.

Learn more about Movember by watching the Intro Video at http://us.movember.com

The basic deal is this: Start out clean-shaven today. And take a picture! Next Monday, carve out a perfect caterpillar on your upper lip, and update it at least once a week by shaving the rest of your face. Be as creative as you like, but make sure it’s a moustache. No goatees or full beards allowed!! We’ll be casually meeting for a beer once a week to check in on each other’s progress. And we will party December 3rd… to show off our goods. As will folks all over the country.

[I happen to be in NY and ran into my friend Neil Cohn last night, who unbeknown to me was two days into his stache already... chances are your buddies are already doing it. ]

Aside from good clean fun, we’ll also be raising money to fight prostate cancer, something I’m sure you all can appreciate. To join the Cleantech Mustache Challenge go to http://us.movember.com/register/54592 . Once registered you’ll be sent all the information needed to get donations and get growing.

So get your mo on, fellas. Together we can change the face of men’s health.

2. Ladies: Support your favorite ‘stache!!! And come along for the ride!

Your (presently hairless) gents:

Dan Whaley, Climos
Edward Sullivan, Antenna Group
Ian Thomson, Cleantechies
Warner Philips, Tendris
David Pascal, SF Carbon Collaborative / City of SF
Anup Jacob, Virgin Green Fund
and… Neil Cohn, Macquarie Bank, NY

PS. Please fwd liberally, and RSVP if you’re joining the effort..
